Building decent homes in partnership with God’s people in need in Nelson County!
In 1994 we became the 1000th U.S. Affiliate for Habitat for Humanity International and completed our first house.
Since that time we have completed one house each year, completing our Fourteenth House at the end of
2007.
Nelson County, with a population of about 14,000, is located in Central Virginia between the James River and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
While Nelson County boasts many farms and beautiful homes with mountain views, recent census estimates approximately 40% of the homes in the county are considered substandard.
Some of the homes have inadequate or nonexistent plumbing. Many have poor insulation, no central heat, and/or rotting roofs and floors, making them unsafe.
It is the mission of the Nelson County Affiliate to help solve the problem of inadequate housing, one Partner Family at a time.
