Become a Covenant Church
"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40)
The work of Habitat for Humanity is truly an example of faith in action. Building homes with people in need is our response to God's love. Integral to our success are good working relationships with area churches. The Covenant Church Program shapes the commitment between the local church or parish and Habitat for Humanity, forming a partnership to build simple, decent homes with those in need.
The program allows church members to express their faith through a practical "hands-on" partnership that meets the housing needs of the inadequately sheltered. By working together as partners, the affluent and the poor become aware of their common heritage as God's children.
There currently are more than twenty churches in Nelson County that are Covenant Churches. Each Habitat Covenant Church is required to provide prayer and financial support. Beyond that, each congregation provides its own form of commitment, appropriate to its particular mission. Covenant Churches are encouraged to support Habitat in a variety of ways: Celebrate the International Day of Prayer in September, spread the word about Habitat throughout the community, adopt-a-home, or organize work parties to build a home with NCHFH.
In 2004 NCHFH presented each Covenant Church with a Certificate of Appreciation for the many years of support to our Affiliate. In addition, many of the churches took advantage of our offer to install a sign provided by Habitat designating their church as a Covenant Church.
Nelson County Habitat Covenant Churches include Trinity Episcopal Church, Nelson United Methodist Church, White Rock Baptist Church, Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Rodes United Methodist Church, Rock Springs United Methodist Church, Massies Mill Presbyterian Church, Rockfish Presbyterian Church, Grace Episcopal Church, Rose Union Baptist Church, Harmony Presbyterian Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Beech Grove Christian Church, Pine Hill Baptist Church, Woodland Baptist Church, Locust Grove Baptist Church, St. Hebron Baptist Church, Hebron Baptist Church, House of God For All People, Baptist Fellowship, Montreal Baptist Church, and Ebenezer Baptist Church.
